History
Archaeological
excavations of recent time have proven that already more than 3000 years
ago a civilization had settled in Ibiza and Formentera. On Formentera a tomb was found,
which dates back to 1.600 B.C. In San Antonio one can visit the cave paintings of Ses Fontanelles which date
back to the year 800 B.C. In San Juan and San Agustin they found axes and bronze
disks (700 B.C.), witness for early settling. For the Phoenicians Ibiza was
a magic island, blessed by the Gods, because the rich red soil was not
volcanic and there was nothing around that could be of danger to humans.
Still today there are people that carry flasks filled with this earth as
lucky charms, to protect themselves against all evils.
"Ibiza will
be the last shelter on earth" prophesized Nostradamus.
If one believes the fortune telling of this French astrologist and
physician, who lived in the 15th. century, then Ibiza,
thanks to its special wind streams, would be the only place on earth where
life will continue existing after a worldwide nuclear catastrophe.
The island Es Vedrá protrudes like a pre-historic monster out of the
water and there is little that grows on it. Don Francisco Palau, a
Carmelita priest and founder of the convent of Es Cubells,
while he meditated there, he made some extraordinary appointments of inexplicable
features and meetings of "aliens" surrounded by light. Enormous
circles of light, of up to 50 m diameters, which shine up from the depths
of the sea, keep even the bravest fisherman away from that area. It is
believed that there are strong magnetic fields on Es Vedrá,
and these are responsible for these unexplainable phenomena’s.
It is no secret, that Ibiza has the highest concentration
of international artist living on such a small place. They found
inspiration and fulfilment in
the simple aesthetic and very enriching ibizencan way of live. "Tranquilo", one of the most used words of the Ibicencos, basically says "live in peace and
harmony with yourself and nature”.
